An Update on Issue 2: Here’s your chance to get published

It’s February, time for Issue #2, the Winter 2022 issue! I want to take a few minutes to talk about the status of the new issue, the magazine as a whole, and where it all will (hopefully) go from here. To everyone who ordered Issue #1–whether in print or digital form–thank you! (And if you haven’t yet ordered Issue #1, which will be available indefinitely for purchase as a back-issue, you can find it at the links in the previous sentence.)

Also, I’d be lying if I said that I don’t have a pretty sizable feeling of imposter syndrome from time to time, especially writing with the word Catholic in the name of the magazine. But hey, as they say, it does what it says on the label! Again, thank you to everyone who has supported the magazine so far. You rock!

So, here we go with the updates about the status of the magazine:

1) Issue #2 is moving forward, a bit slower than hoped for thanks to some unexpected health challenges which popped up recently, but moving forward nevertheless. I am still in need of two more articles to round it out: a reflection on Lent or Easter (as both liturgical seasons occur between the release of Issue #2 later this month and Issue #3 sometime around May 2022), and a vocation story, whether from a priest, a permanent or transitional deacon or seminarian, someone in religious life, or a lay single or married person (especially because of Vatican II’s refocus on the universal call to holiness and the unique role of the laity in the Church’s mission). If you’d like to submit an article on one of these topics, please send your submission to editor@thecatholicmag.com by February 18, 2022 for it to be considered for inclusion in Issue #2! Or if you have another topic you’d like to write about, feel free to submit an article on it. I’m flexible. And don’t forget, if you haven’t already ordered Issues #1 through #4, or if you just want Issue #2, to visit the online store and to place your order. For the record, if your article is accepted for publication in the magazine, you’ll receive a free copy of the issue in which your article appears.

2) As I mentioned in the paragraph above, some unexpected life events got in the way of what I’d planned to do since sending out Issue #1 in late November. But I’d like to get back into publishing weekly online free-to-read articles on the website, and I don’t want to subject you all to hearing only my perspective on things, so if you’d like to get involved with that, please email me at editor@thecatholicmag.com. You can write as frequently or as rarely as you want.

3) Finally, as hinted above, the magazine releases quarterly, meaning that Issue #1 was the Fall 2021 edition, Issue #2 is the Winter 2022 edition, and so on. Issue #2 is due to come out at the end of this month, February 2022, and Issue #3 will come out sometime around May 2022 as the Spring 2022 issue. Eventually, I hope that the magazine will get shifted up one month (it feels a bit silly to release the Spring edition of a quarterly magazine in May, but that’s where we are for now in terms of publishing). Just putting it out there!

4) Okay, I lied: this is my final point. Here’s the cover for Issue #2, the Winter 2022 issue! Looks cold, doesn’t it?

Thanks for reading!
